Also, I have slice racks from Craig Co. Their other single-shot racks are shown in the Finale catalog but I don’t see anything for slice/sweep racks, even in generic racks. I tried to create one but it didn’t go well. Is it possible to create a 26.5″L x 20.5″ W rack that can be used for slices/sweeps? The sides are open so technically the width doesn’t matter too much. The length is adjustable up to 26.5″ by sliding a tension plate.
Thanks!

Great question! I know it’s not super intuitive, but you can search the forums from the Help Center. The search box in the help center simultaneously searches all the Finale 3D documentation, videos and forum posts. In the future, we’ll add a forum search box somewhere on the forum pages to make it more intuitive.

Yes, it’s absolutely possible. When you tried to create the rack, where did things go wrong? Did you have trouble with the terminology in the dialog when you were trying to configure the rack? Or did the rack not work after you created it? Or something else?

The rack was basically a super long line (dimensions were way off). It’s not a big deal for me, I just thought maybe someone else had success creating a slice rack since Craig Co has their other products in the catalog.
On the subject of dimensions being off, is there an option to have all user setting default to imperial instead of metric? I’m the stereotypical American that can’t handle the metric system 😉
Also, is there a way to print the GPS coordinates of positions to aid in site layout setup? The only thing I have found is the white grid diagram. I was hoping to have a way to print the google maps background with my positions and coordinates of each position. I’m doing some angled shots and would like to have the effects line up as close as possible to the simulation.
Thanks for your help!

You’re totally right. Racks dimensions don’t match the real world right now and a slice rack is probably the worst offender. The good news is that we’ve begun laying the groundwork to draw all racks with accurate dimensions. In the latest beta release, we’ve added a new “Physical Specifications” column. The column doesn’t work just yet, but once we get it hooked up, you’ll be able to specify the real-world dimensions for racks, and other items.

I understand where you’re coming from on feet versus meters. There is a user setting to change the position rulers from meters to feet, but there’s no setting to change everything to imperial. In a variety of places, like creating an effect or arranging firing positions, you can use feet by entering a value with ‘ft’ at the end, but in other places meters are the only option. If you’re stuck entering meters somewhere, just ask Google to convert.

The GPS coordinates aren’t currently being tracked, so at the moment there’s no way to get them on a report or layout diagram. However, the latest beta release of Finale 3D does add basic drawing tools for site maps including rulers. The rules don’t snap to positions or safety circles yet, but they can still be useful. On a very large shoot site, I can see how GPS coordinates would be very useful. On a smaller shoot site, I would think measuring from position to position would be more accurate because of the tolerance in GPS.
Thanks for your help!
