What causes my simulation to “stutter?”

Could be your graphics card is not up to par…….I had that issue till I upgraded cards/computers

It could be the graphics card, as pyro59371416 says. That is less likely though if the stuttering is new and the same computer used to run your shows without it.

So, it would be helpful to know if Finale 3D has always stuttered on this computer, or whether this is new.

If it has always done it, the hardware could be the culprit. Let me know what graphics card you have and whether it happens on all shows or only larger ones. Here are the system requirements for reference: https://finale3d.com/documentation/machine-compatibility/

If it is new, I would start with a full shutdown and restart of the computer. After that, here are a few things to check:

    • If you recently updated to a new version of Finale 3D.
    • Whether you have Windows updates pending. Windows can run sluggishly while updates are waiting to install.
    • Whether other applications are running in the background.
    • The show itself. A show with more effects, or with effects that are heavier to render, can stutter on a computer that handled your earlier shows fine.

I allowed Finale 3d to update my show to the newest build. My Pyro Sensei, Mike Allen, recommended I go load the previous build and that took care of the problem. Does the newest build require more out of a graphics card? If so, that very well could be my issue when using the most recent build because my laptop does not have a very advanced graphics card.

No, the latest version of Finale 3D should not require a more powerful graphics card. The performance of the simulation should be identical between the latest and previous versions of Finale 3D. The only rendering changes in the latest version are designed to fix problems Mac users encountered after updating to Parallels Desktop 27. If you’re not on a Mac, these changes shouldn’t have any effect on how the simulation performs.

At this moment, I’m on a computer with Intel HD Graphics 620, which is a very low-end, integrated graphics card. I just did some visual comparisons of the simulation between the latest and previous versions and didn’t notice any differences.

To help us troubleshoot the issue, could you use your cell phone to record your screen and make a couple short videos:

    1. A video showing the stuttering in the latest version.

    2. A video showing the same part of the same show, showing smooth playback in the old verison.

Please send both videos to support@finale3d.com.

    Thank you!
