I want to use it as much as I can for my pyromusical on the 4th, but I’m running into some problems with the cakes I have. I believe the biggest problem I have is the graphics card (or lack thereof), on my PC not being up to snuff. I’ve ordered a new one to replace the current one in hopes that rectifies things as much as possible. Anyway, as far as the cakes go:
I purchased several cakes from Spirit of 76 and I can’t seem to find them in the network inventory. The first and biggest one I could use is Rush Hour, it’s a 3-minute long cake and the youtube link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvFlycGGXpc&list=PL_F3NMJ1O4htQ0HoksV0gppdsbCO4-J8j&index=8.
I also noticed that Party On, which seems to be more of a zipper cake is not reflected thusly in the preview. This could relate to my graphics card issue, not sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hIsbmi6sb0&list=PL_F3NMJ1O4htQ0HoksV0gppdsbCO4-J8j&index=9
These are just a couple I’ve noticed so far. Please let me know if I’m entirely off base or I need my head examined. I look forward to interacting with all of you and furthering my understanding of the hobby.
Thank you in advance.

Rather they are timed for scripting purposes. Some of the ProLine items are scripted as more than just a placeholder. I believe it is in the works to make some of the popular consumer cakes available in the visuals at some point. You could use cake creator to make your own version of these cakes.

PyroWalker is correct, some sims are just placeholders, but even as a placeholder this one is a bit embarrassing. Spirit of 76 maintains their Finale 3D catalog, I’ll reach out to them and ask them to make another push to fix up the cake sims. We are also working on a project to improve consumer cakes and add new ones. The goal is to add 1,000 good quality consumer cakes. It’s a big undertaking, so it will take some time. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn how to create your own cakes, check out some of the other forum topics on this subject:

DrewFinaleJoined: Dec 2019 Posts: 557 Location: United States SilverGood news, I spoke with PyroDan at Spirit of 76 this morning and he graciously offered to add missing items and make some improvements to simulations in his catalog.

Pary On – was missing the caliber & defaulting to 3″ size or so. Updated catalog to 25mm, which should be much closer.
3-Minute Mayhem – added to the catalog (please note 120sec duration is a limit of the software (should be closer to 150sec).
I wish we had more time to get solid sims instead of placeholder sims for some of these items. If anyone knows someone who would be good at creating VDL simulations based on youtube videos – please hit me up.

My dad and I are working on our 4th of July show and as we were adding cakes to our script, we noticed that there are some discrepancies with what we were each seeing (on two separate laptops, each running finale.) We tested this on two different cakes but I’m adding pictures of “Backyard King” to give an example. Not all the information matches when it’s the same cake – the height output is different.
DrewFinaleJoined: Dec 2019 Posts: 557 Location: United States SilverHi Kristine Ernzen, your screenshots show that your computers are running different versions of Finale 3D. The ‘Edit Effect’ dialog in your second screenshot has a middle section titled, ‘Optional inputs’, this represents a recent “BETA” release of Finale 3D. In contrast, your first screenshot shows an older version of the edit effect dialog, and therefore an older release of Finale 3D. You can check which “Build” you’re running on each computer by going to ‘File > View account details’.
Normally, I would expect effects to be identical between different software builds, but in this case the BETA version represents the culmination of a large effect improvement project. The only question is, which version is working correctly? If the height is correct in the old version, then we have bug to fix before we do our next build. On the other hand, if you think the newer, BETA version is better, then the solution is to update the computer running the older version to the latest BETA.
