Is there a way to prevent a chain of shells wrapping around multiple racks?

Absolutely! When addressing, each chain = 1 pin, so to prevent chains from wrapping, simply restrict each pin to a single rack in section 3 of the Address Show dialog. For full instructions, see: https://finale3d.com/documentation/preventing-chains-from-splitting-across-racks/
