Here is the VDL: 3″ 5.00s 10 Shot Cake (a) Red Peony + (b) White Peony + (c) Blue Peony Fnl Cake, 1 Row (abcabcabca)
I am trying to put it AFTER the “10 shot” but it doesn’t get recognized. Is this because “degrees” is limited to a size or am I doing something wrong?

It visually looks correct but if I go back to the VDL it shows — 3″ 10 Shot Fan (a) Cake Red Peony + (b) White Peony + (c) Blue Peony Fnl Cake, 1 Row (abcabcabca) .. interesting .. may just be a bug
<EDIT> went back into the VDL editor, added 30 Degrees, it looked correct in the lower green box, updated and the 30 Degrees disappeared again in the VDL description but the edit took visually

This is analogues 4″ Red Peony 3.2 PFT. The prefire of 3.2s isn’t preserved when the VDL is saved because the default prefire for a 4″ shell is 3.2s.
The VDL logic tries to optimize and shorten descriptions by removing unnecessary terms.

Example: 3″ 5.00s 10 Shot Fan Cake (a) Red Peony + (b) White Peony + (c) Blue Peony FNL Fan Cake, 1 Row (abcabcabca)
This will fan your cake AND pan it 90… Is this supposed to happen Drew or is this a bug?
DrewFinaleJoined: Dec 2019 Posts: 557 Location: United States SilverHey Curtis B, I’m having trouble reproducing the fan + pan issue. Below is a video showing my steps. If you’re still encountering the problem, reply with a Loom video (loom.com) to help me understand the reproduction path.
Curtis BJoined: Jan 2023 Posts: 47 Location: Ozark, Missouri, United States NewcomerHey DrewFinale I’m not able to recreate the bug anymore… not sure how I created it in the first place but it isn’t wanting to happen again. It may have been a previous version and once I updated the bug disappeared. Thanks!
Curtis BJoined: Jan 2023 Posts: 47 Location: Ozark, Missouri, United States NewcomerDrewFinale I was able to recreate the bug… here’s the VDL that is causing the bug:
1.2″ 15.00s 49 Shot 50 Degrees (a) Cake Very Long Long Slightly Dense Very Small Very Dim Kamuro Ear w/ Sparse Very Dim Very Small Blue Ear Z Shape Fan, 7 Rows, Row 7 (aaaaaaa/FNR/0.5)
Changed to this: 1.2″ 15.00s 49 Shot 50 Degrees (a) Very Long Long Slightly Dense Very Small Very Dim Kamuro Ear w/ Sparse Very Dim Very Small Blue Ear Cake Z Shape Fan, 7 Rows, Row 7 (aaaaaaa/FNR/0.5)
Both have the angles panned 90° when looking at the “Front” in Lite.
I’ll video here in a little bit if needed still but here’s the screenshot of the Pan:
Curtis BJoined: Jan 2023 Posts: 47 Location: Ozark, Missouri, United States NewcomerDrewFinale I was able to recreate it… TWICE!
The first time I didn’t record properly so I had to try again and was able to recreate it again. Not sure what’s going on or why it is happening…
DrewFinaleJoined: Dec 2019 Posts: 557 Location: United States SilverHey Curtis B, nicely done. The video is easy to follow and now I understand the issue perfectly. For better or worse, everything is working as designed. The key moment in your video is at 2:11 when you replace the first effect you created with the cake effect. If you look at the Pan column before you do the replacement, you’ll see the pan angle is 90. If you look at the pan angle after you do the replacement, you’ll see the pan angle is still 90. Non-cake items are automatically inserted with a pan of 90 because this allows ‘Tilt’ to be left and right (which is the most common way of angling an effect). It’s not the VDL that’s causing your cake to get a pan of 90, it’s simply that you’re replacing another effect that already has a pan of 90. The replace function simply doesn’t change the angles. You could certainly argue that pan 90 should be removed when a different type of item is replaced with a cake. That might be a good improvement, we’d just have to think through all the replacement scenarios to make sure that was a net positive change.
P.S. Loom (loom.com) is great free tool I use for sharing screen recordings up to 5 minutes. One thing that makes it awesome is that the videos are published in real-time, and you instantly have a sharable link.
