Hey Curtis, congrats on picking up a Lite license. Nice job, you’re exactly right, Finale 3D is a little finicky about the sample rate of WAV files. This is something we plan to improve in the future. In the meantime, to ensure compatibility, stick to WAV files with 44,100Hz sample rate and 16-bit depth.   You also mentioned a “popping” sound issue. This is a know issue with some MP3s (see MP3 audio issues). But you shouldn’t have this issue with WAV files. Are you sure you had this issue with a WAV file?   Deleting your audio in Finale 3D Lite should be as easy as going to the ‘Show’ menu and selecting ‘Delete songs’ (Music menu in Hobbyist and Pro). Did you find the menu item and it didn’t work, or were you just having trouble finding it?   There shouldn’t be any need to reinstall.

Importing Audio Issue

I have created a .WAV file in Audacity and for some reason, Finale 3D doesn’t seem to want to import it into the timeline. I was also having trouble deleting the song to fix the “popping” issue but it wasn’t deleting. I JUST bought Lite and am wondering if I should uninstall and reinstall or should that even be a factor?   Just trying to figure out how to fix my issue.   EDIT: I fixed my issue… if you are reading this due to having the same issue, make sure your WAV file is set at 44.1Khz Rate and 16 bit processing, otherwise Finale might have issues with loading the file.

This is the reason that you’re having trouble submitting your contest entry. For this contest, custom effects are not allowed. Instead of a custom sim, you should have human-readable Visual Descriptive Language (VDL)Visual Descriptive Language (VDL). For example, instead of {SIM1}, you should have something like, “Red Peony” or “Brocade Waterfall”, or whatever the appropriate effect is for the cake.

When you look at the VDL, do see any characters inside of { } curly braces?

RA142005 – Red Tip and White Strobe Tail with White Strobe Mine

There’s the video for reference…   I’ve got the VDL pretty close but am running into an issue where it is treating the “white strobing willow tail” as a parent particle for the “red tip”   1.2″ 0.40s 0.20 PFT 13 Shot Red Tip W/ White Strobing Willow Tail w/ White Strobing Mine Comet Z Shape Cake (1 Row)   How would you separate the child/parent particle so the comet itself is a red tipped comet but has a white strobing willow tail? Basically, making it look like the red tip is emitting the tail particles.

Hi Aaron, here are replies to your questions.   Aaron “The Pyro Man” Michael (Platinum Fireworks, Inc.) wrote: Hi, Drew. I have one of the following questions regarding to the rules:   1. The spreadsheet contains all the details for the 10 cakes you will need to create to enter the contest. Q: Is it okay to create all of the real life cakes or just choose one?   To enter the contest, you need to create simulations for all 10 cakes listed in the spreadsheet.       2. Using only Visual Descriptive Language (VDL), make simulations for all 10 cakes listed in the spreadsheet. Your objective is to create simulations that look as similar as possible to the videos of the real-life cakes. The limitation is that you may not use the effect editor. This means that the effects in each cake must be human-readable VDL. In addition to visual similarity (effects, angles, firing pattern, timing, etc.), make sure that your cakes match the information provided in the spreadsheet. For example, if the spreadsheet specifies that a given cake has a size of 1.25″, be sure the cake you create is 1.25″. Q: How can I do that if I create a cake in all 10 cakes in the spreadsheet?   Thanks in advance, AARONTHEPYROMAN   Sorry, I’m not sure I understand this question. There are 10 different cakes listed in the spreadsheet. You need to create simulations for each individual cake. When you are done, you should have VDL descriptions for 10 separate cakes.
