I have my audio formatted correctly and when I use an MP3 it adds a strange static clicking noise in a few spots. If I use a wav file the strange clicking is gone.

If I play the MP3 outside of Finale it does not have the strange noises at all.

Can anyone help with this? I made a video so you can see https://app.screencast.com/10NFpoJZ9UFZG

Hi PyroExec, thanks for posting. Sorry for the inconvenience, you’re not doing anything wrong, the audio artifacts are a Finale 3D bug. We’ve had this on our list for a while, but fixing the issue is a large project and we just haven’t been able to get to it yet.

The good news is that in the meantime, there’s an easy workaround that fully resolves the issue in every case. For more details and a tutorial video, check out this forum topic: MP3 audio issues (static, crackling, popping, clicking) when importing songs into Finale 3D.

    Thanks.

I figured that it didn’t matter since the source MP3 is good and has no clicks. I have been scripting with the wav file so I don’t hear the clicks.

    Hello PyroExec

I have come across this as well using Audacity for creating my mixes and exporting a MP3 file at 256 KBPS, if I dropped it down to 192 KBPS the clipping was gone.

Just keep in mind, if you’re formatting your soundtrack as an MP3 because your using the COBRA Audio Box, then it’s critical that the bitrate of your MP3 file is 320 kbps. Reference: https://help.cobrafiringsystems.com/hc/en-us/articles/5643587743643-Creating-and-Formatting-the-MP3-Soundtrack

    Thanks Drew

I did know about the 44100Hz project sample rate but have been running the Audio box MP3 at 192 kbps on export will try using the 320.

Hi Drew – any update on an ETA for this fix?

Hey Pyro_326760000, I’m sorry, as of today, we still don’t have a timeline for a fix on the MP3 audio artifacts bug.

If you’re thinking, come one guys, what’s taking so long!? The answer is, there are a couple factors. First, when we triage bug reports, we give the highest priority to bugs for which there is no good or easy workaround. This bug keeps getting pushed down the list because there is a super easy, 100% reliable workaround (all you have to do is convert your soundtrack to a WAV file or if your need MP3, you can simply convert your soundtrack to WAV and then convert the WAV back to MP3).

The second reason we haven’t tackled this issue yet is because unfortunately it’s not a quick task. We estimate that it will take somewhere around 40 to 80 programming hours to do the fix, and we just haven’t yet been able to carve out that much time in our development schedule.

    Sorry for the inconvenience…
