Hi Jamie,   i think it depends on which macbook air you are running – an M1, M2, M3 or even an older Intel besed one ? I peronally run Finale on an M1 Pro with 16GB of RAM . The speed is good enought to script small to mid size shows (like Pyrojam) without a lot of 3d Models. For me this is enough because most of the time i do support issues with addressing and racks so i am fine with this excellent computer ! Because i also do some Finale videos this is he richt laptop for me because you never heard the fans 😉 But i will switch to a M4 Pro as soon as it is available to be prepared for the future. A lot of my customers ask me if a mac is a good choice for finale. It is hard to give. a general answer here because it really depends on the shows you are scripting.   I thougt we should share a kind of demo show and users should answer how much time their pc or laptop need to render this show. So we got a first impression about the finale speed of a computer . Dirk

Mac System requirements

Hello, I am very new to Finale and just doing this as a hobby. trying to get this working on my macbook air.   I have it running via parallels. It runs but is a bit choppy on default settings. I can change the render settings to get it to be fairly smooth but I give up a lot of resolution in doing so.   Just curious if anyone has any luck running Finale 3D on mac laptops? If so, what hardware stats do you have?   May look at upgrading sooner than later.  An air would be ideal but interested to hear about pros as well.   Thanks, Jamie

Reply To: Finale 3D Feature Requests

A feature I would love to see added would be a shortcut key to switch between shows. I often times have a VDL “show” window open to create effects for my pyromusicals so it doesn’t muddy up the actual show I am working on. Currently, the process to switch shows is cumbersome (File > Switch Shows > [select show]) but if we had a way to switch between them easily, it could help speed up the workflow of creating pyromusicals. I’m thinking something like Ctrl + Pg Up/Pg Dn similar to how you “scroll” through worksheets in Excel or tabs in Chrome.

Has that feature been removed from Lite all of a sudden? I used to be able to do it but now it doesn’t even show up as an option.

It does import CSV files, but seems not to like the ones from Finale. Thanks anyway

Reply To: Dymo 550 label printer

Hi,   i don’t have a Dymo 550 label printer, but i use a simular one from Brother. In the software there is the possibility to import a csv file and then design labels baed on the fields in the csv on your own. If the software has this functionality you can just export the finale script as csv and import it in the software . Than it should be easy to design and print the labels.   hope that helps Dirk

Dymo 550 label printer

Good evening all, I am trying to use a Dymo 550 printer for my labels, but Finale out puts in PDF and does not seem to want to print the labels. I just get it push one blank label out then nothing. The only I have found to get it to print is using the Dymo software and print as image. The down side to this you have to select each label in turn one at a time. This is not going to work for me. I am using a new Mac book pro anyone else using a Dymo 550 ?

Hi Curtis B, check File > User settings > Timeline events snap to playhead. Make sure you have that setting enabled to get the snapping.
