Hi, I might’ve missed some of these, but i thought id just check.

    1. Can cakes / Cake-Slices be angled or are they limited to vertical only?

Yes, cakes can be angled. For a tutorial on angling cakes, go to 9:30 in this video: https://finale3d.com/video/mastering-angles-pan-tilt-spin

    2. what happens if rules are accidentally broken in small quantities? I.E. if one or two effects got mis placed on a prox position rather than a front? is that effect deleted and the show judged without, a points reduction, disqualification?

Small, inadvertent mistakes would not result in disqualification. The show will be judged as is, without effects being deleted. Minor errors don’t have specific point deduction values unless noted in the rules. For example, there is a 5 point deduction for shows that don’t meeting the duration requirements.

3.Is there an easy what to see what effects are used in a set of positions? useful for checking that ive only used the correct effect types in the correct place.

Unhide the Subtype column in the script window and click on the Subtype column header to sort the script by Subtype. Then, filter the script to a set of positions, for example F-01 to F-19. Then, simply scroll through the script and look for events with Subtype values that don’t belong in those positions.

    4. is there a way to see all the effects used in the show, with the quantities used and the available amount, so I can double check Ive not gone over anywhere.

Use the quantity filter in the effects window to filter the PyroJam catalog to Used > Available.

    5. How precise for angles can SS positions be? of course fans can be Simulated with less than single degree accuracy, but that’s not practical in the real world to set up, is there any recommended guidance, I.E. 5 degree divisions?

    1° degree increments are fine.

Hi Drew, I’ve been reading the forum, but I don’t know where I’m making a mistake? In the subtly,,, it only shows me fuel mine as I’m sending you. And I’ve also done the steps you recommended to others. I downloaded Pyrojam cagatalog again.?

I’m sorry, I’m having trouble understanding the problem. Your screenshot shows a list of many Subtypes, not just Fuel Mine. Can you try describing the problem in more detail?

Thank you. Hi Drew and Tim, I had a problem like Pyro 2903. I solved the problem. I will ask my question:
    1. If my show, idea, music requires chaos 30 sec. – chaotic firing for example in one second it will only go: P1 + P3 + P4 + F3+F5+CK3+CK7+Cake 2,5 – 4″ sheels 1, + Cake 5-6″ 3 + wheeel. And would the same be repeated to the music 30 sec. under different angles? (Yes I know I can only choose one option, either LFM, WHEEL OR TOWERS. Is it allowed? Thank you

I am sorry PACT, but I’m not 100% sure what you are asking.  I looked back through the threads and the only problem I can see Pryo 2903 having was understanding exactly what types of items were allowed on the wheel/tower positions.  Are wanting to do a chaotic looking scene using the same device at all of the positions you mentioned and are having trouble finding a device which can be used at all of them according to the rules of the competition?  If that is not your question, please elaborate as I’m a bit confused.  Thank you.

Hi Tim, everything is clear for me about competition. Of course, the whole show will be synchronized with the music. My question is: my scenario, idea, music also requires chaotic firing for 30 seconds from different positions. Can I put 30 sec chaotic firing in the show? Thank you.

There are no restrictions on firing patterns outside of what devices are allowed to be fired from their respective positions.  Hope that answers your question.

Bonjour Tim, on est bien d’accord que le show doit durée 10 minute maximum?

Durée mesuré entre le premier et le dernier tire .

That is correct, the minimum duration is 9 minutes, the maximum is 10 minutes. Show duration is calculated as the time from the first cue marker to the last cue marker on the timeline.

I’m considering about taking out a few comets that do go over the trees.   Curious though.  Since the model was created have the trees grown significantly?

As long as they go over the trees in the simulation it will be fine.

Hi, brand new user of Finale3D…in just the last month. I’m late to the game for 2025 Pyrojam, as I just figured out what it was…lol. I was focused on learning the software and getting my show complete for this summer, to get my product orders in early. I’m not a power user yet, but, I’ve learned a large chunk of the software already…and I think its a great product.

    Anyway, a couple basic, wave-top questions…

    1. Is the Pyrojam physical shooting location the same every year?

    2. Can anyone go to the shoot, or is it for entrants only? (I only live a couple hrs away and would love to bring my family out to watch it)

    3. For next year…can I just use my Hobbyist license or do I HAVE to upgrade to the PRO version?

    Thanks!

    Hello Drew,

I would like a precision concerning the question N°11 in the main topic about letter matrix.

If I understand correctly, we cannot do letters with single shot for example ? Or it’s just concerned the direction toward or away the audience ?

In resume if we do letters verticaly, does it allowed ?

    Thank’s.

Yes, the same location has been used for PyroJam each year since the inception of the competition. There are no plans whatsoever to change the location, but of course it’s possible that the event could move in the future depending on several factors.

Yes, ANYONE and EVERYONE can attend PyroJam. Come and bring 10,000 of your best friends. https://www.pyrojamusa.com/

You can use Hobbyist to design a PyroJam show, but you’ll be missing out on some great features that are only available in Pro. If Pro license upgrades are free again next year (as they have been every year), why not take advantage!?

Effects may not be fired toward or away from the audience. This prevents you from doing “matrix” letters. However, there are no restrictions on firing patterns or left/right angles, which means there is no rule against vertical letters. In other words, vertical letters are allowed.

    Hi Tim,

I noticed that there has been a lot of updates to the catalog. Something seems to be wrong with the 5 inch Gold Strobing Willows (JY5-0378-GSW). They explode way before the selected cue. Thank you.

We did update a number of effects in the catalog but the changes were limited to shell heights, and the adjustment for most items was very minor. The updates shouldn’t be causing what you’re seeing — we’ll take a look and follow up as soon as possible.

Do a quick re-sync now, it should be fine.  The rising phase of the shell and the PFT were slightly different, not even positive this was during the update.  It should work fine now.

Submitted a show this year! I regretted not finishing one last year, so I made sure to get it done this time. Had a “blast” putting it together. Good luck to everyone competing!
