Hello all a bit new to the hobby but as I’m sure with must of you once I’m hooked I go ALL in. I can’t wait to see what Finale 3D has in store to improve my shows.  Thanks Jesse

Managing ‘Tracks’ or Events

I’m wondering what the best ways are to manage tracks?   A few of the challenges that I’ve come up against, and somewhat overcome, but wondering what others do?   I don’t have the luxury nor trust in my product to script an entire show so generally fire the show as many small sequences. I’m assuming I’m not the only one?   So far, my approach is to use the minute marks as the starting point for each sequence to assist with logical grouping (eg 1m xx sec is for Track 1, 2m xx sec is for Track 2 and so on). My longest sequences are usually around 40 seconds and this has worked relatively well transitioning from my script in a spreadsheet to placing it on the Finale3D timeline, which then exports nicely to FireOne. I’m not sure yet whether it is more efficient than going straight from the spreadsheet to FireOne yet but thats a different matter, however the visualiser is kind of nice and did allow me to pick up on a couple of minor glitches in my ideas.   What do you do however once you get to the point of having a show scripted and then decide you want to insert another track/event somewhere in the middle? In FireOne UF there is an event manager so quickly creating a new event at the end, and then bumping it up to where it needs to go is a trivial task but it seems like there is no similar functionality in Finale3D at least not that I can find, nor any real reference in the documentation.   In a Lighting Console world, you would insert a ‘dot’ Cue – If you have Cues 1 and 2, inserting Cue 1.1 will place it sequentially between. Most Lighting Consoles then let you to perform some type of resequencing resulting in all Cues having a major number.  Finale certainly accepts a decimal in the Track field, but doesn’t do anything to process it.   I’m certainly not expecting anyone to answer before New Year. Enjoy the festivities!   Also (maybe I should ask separately – so feel free to tell me to get lost) – but is there a way to sort columns in numerical order rather than alphabetical/string order? Currently the Track Column sorts 1,10,11,12,2,21,22 etc which is inconvenient to get events in a row.

In the script window, use the blue gear ⚙️ to unhide the Module or Slat Type column. Then, look for a line of script that doesn’t have a value for module type. To populate the correct value, copy and paste from another line of script that already has a valid module type.   Tip: To find the offending line of script quickly, sort the script by the Module or Slat Type column (by clicking on the column name).

Reply To: How to create a rack on hobbyist version

If the “mortar rack” is a preloaded pyrotechnic device containing multiple tubes that is discarded after one use, then it is considered a “cake” in Finale 3D terminology. Pyrotechnic effects like cakes are created from the Effects menu on the main menu bar.   If the “mortar rack” combines a standalone piece of equipment that can be reused over and over along with shells that are loaded into the rack, then rack itself and the shells are created as separate items in Finale 3D. The mortar rack equipment is created from the Racks menu (Finale 3D Hobbyist and Pro only) and pyrotechnic effects including shells are created from the Effects menu.

How to create a rack on hobbyist version

Can I create an effect that is a mortar rack, 6×4 orientation. I have a 6×4 splitter that allows me to shoot 4 shells per cue times 6 for total 24 shells shot. I would put 2 seconds between each row of 4 shells being shot so entire rack shot in 12 seconds.

Missing module type error

Anyone know how to locate and resolve this issue? Popped up when trying to export a show.

Change max ematches per pin from one to X, where X is the maximum number of items you want on a single cue.  Keep in mind there are limits depending on type of match , parallel or series wiring and power your using.  https://help.cobrafiringsystems.com/hc/en-us/articles/5529449985691-How-many-e-match-MJG-initiators-Talons-Clip-on-Igniters-can-I-fire-in-series-or-in-parallel

I tried this https://app.screencast.com/RZEZm2LCiwxkm and I’m getting closer but it says I need 43 18m’s and with 15 36m’s I technically only have 30 18ms available. https://app.screencast.com/xRWhkgbVGrGNj     A follow up question as well. If I’m using 1 cue to shoot multiple effects at the same time it gives the group multiple cues, how do I have it just assign one cue to the group? See this: https://app.screencast.com/92fB24A7ZSb6c
