Vulcan Product Catalog

Greetings!   Before I take the time to build out VDL’s for an array of Vulcan product, does anyone already have a catalog established or at least willing to provide some of the VDL’s with integrated timing/language/effects/etc?   Thanks in advance!

Reply To: Can you have product auto assign to positions with some form of custom field?

Welcome to the Finale 3D community forum!   At the moment, Finale 3D doesn’t have a feature for pre-assigning product to positions. But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t add it in the future!   Designating products to specific positions seems like it might be a bit too restrictive. For example, if you pre-assigned each product to a position in the effect window, you would then be forced to use the exact same position names in every show or you would have to update your products. Instead of constraining products, what do you think about constraining positions to sizes and product types? For example, suppose you could set a position to be compatible with 3″ shells. This way, no product modifications would be necessary. 3″ shells would simply go into the matching position.

Can you have product auto assign to positions with some form of custom field?

I did not know if it was possible to have some form of custom field to link the product to a position.  This way when you place a predetermined defined product, it automatically drops to the pre-determined position for that product type or size.   Example :   3″ shells go to 3″  position 4″ Shells go to 4″ position Cakes go to the cake position.   This would save having to constantly have to select what position would like to shoot the product from.  I am thinking of this as more of a rinse-and-repeat for 4th show scripting.  I currently drop all the products at one position for the script and then sort them by size in the script window, then move them into the correct position while organized by size.

PyroJam 2024 Finalists Announcement!

Announcing the three finalists for the 2024 edition of the PyroJam Finale 3D design competition!   Thank you to all 108 designers from 25 countries around the world who entered this year’s competition. The caliber and creativity of the shows was simply incredible. Also, a shout out to Tim Jameson, owner of IPC Displays, the mastermind behind the PyroJam music and fireworks festival.   The judges faced a nearly impossible challenge – a testament to the quality of the show entries, numerous of which are worthy of a spot in the finals. But, in the end, there can be only three, and they are…   Simulations videos (listed in order by show title):     Competition Scores & Judging Feedback Please know that the judges take their role very seriously. As members of the professional fireworks community, they know the amount of time and effort required to design shows of this caliber. The judging team collectively spent over a hundred hours to reach their verdict and it was not easy. Like any other art form, judging a firework show objectively is extremely difficult. Even with a precise scoring system, the emotional response and extent to which a show resonates will be different from person to person. Judging is also a privilege, and the judges want all competitors to know that was a privilege and an honor to see so many excellent shows.   If you would like to receive a critique on your show from the judges, you may contact Tim Jameson (timj@pyrojamusa.com). Due to the massive response, we just kindly ask that you please wait patiently for a reply. Tim promises to respond to everyone, it may just take some time. An overall ranking of all show entries is not planned for release. Doing so would not accurately reflect the quality of the shows or be in the spirit of the competition.   Thank you for being a member of the Finale 3D community, keep up the great work and see you on August 24th at PyroJam!

You’re most welcome! Thanks for letting us know the fix is working on your machine.

Reply To: How to set comet flight path

Thanks for posting! By right clicking on an effect, you can edit it using the effect editor. This will allow you to adjust parameters that control a comet’s trajectory including height, duration, and wind friction. For example, if you reduce the duration of the comet, the launch speed will be increased to get the comet to the same height in less time. This will cause the flight path to be straighter. However, because the environment in Finale 3D is designed to simulate the real world, it’s not possible to turn off gravity.
