This also messed up a lot of the catalog effects, like the Dominator slices with Go-getters.

Hi Drew,   I found this out as well. Many are much more beautiful but many have been reinterpreted by the software and need to be checked.  I assume that once you use the effect editor, all changes due to software interpretation are impossible?

Hello, Hobbyist. Garbage man by day.  Been using CSC for 6 years, thought I would give Finale a try… feeling a bit whelmed.  not over or under just whelmed. very few  of my products are in the effect tabs.  even though I have got all the 76, racoon, and dom.  I use loads of different Manufactures, Winda, Brothers …making the effects takes way more time than just popping over to youtube and looking it up… not sure I will be renewing next year.         youtube.com/vampmadness

Will wrote: Hello, I’m the engineer working on effect times. Did Drew’s suggestion fix what you didn’t like? If not, could you give a detailed explanation of how you would like it to work?   If you set the timeline “snap-to resolution” with the menu item, “Show > Show settings > Set timeline snap-to resolution” to be the same as the frame rate of the effect time (Show > Show settings > Set effect time format) then the playhead, and the time counter during playback, will generally NOT show the +ms. They will look nice and clean. But if the timeline snap-to resolution is different from the effect time format, the time counter during playback WILL show the +ms.   Will     In the new smpte updates will be included the option to see the scritp column “event time” in frames as well as “effect time”. Will you answered me a few months ago that you were evaluating it, I hope it will be possible and a reality. Great work with these new smpte updates!   Thank you 🙂

Please add a “snap effect to playhead” feature. I know you can insert an effect at the playhead location, but you can’t seem to MOVE an effect already on the timeline to the playhead location. I assumed right away this would just happen by default.

Thank you so much!  I now have everything I need (and learned a bunch regarding the customizations!)

Reply To: Site Diagram print formatting help

Hi Pyro_5750000, the default orientation for site layouts is landscape. It sounds like the site layout blueprint in your show may be outdated. Try installing the latest beta release of Finale 3D from finale3d.com/download. Then, open a new/blank show and create a site layout. You don’t need add anything to the show, or edit the layout in any way, just go straight to ‘File > Diagrams > Site layout’. If the diagram is landscape, then the issue is an outdated blueprint in your other show. To update the blueprints, open your show, then go to ‘File > Admin > Update standard blueprints in show’.

Site Diagram print formatting help

When i print a site diagram for a display the resultant pdf file is in portrait format. How do i get the output to be in landscape which is the more natural view for a site diagram and also how it looks in the documentaion online. Also it would be nice if the site diagram could be exported in png or jpg format for use within other documents.

Reply To: Generic CSV Script Export

Yes, nice job. If you don’t have Finale 3D Pro and therefore can’t make a custom report, the ‘Export table’ option in the Script window > blue gear menu is a good option. It preserves the row consolidation that’s active in the Script window and gives you the option to export just the visible columns, or all columns.  Note: the ‘Export table’ option is not available in Finale 3D Lite.

Reply To: realistic airburst effect

You’re absolutely right, the default tuning for “Airburst” needs some work. At least for now, the custom Effect Editor is the way to go, it will allow you to get the exact look you want.   Start by creating a base effect using VDL. For example, if your airbursts have red stars, start with 1″ Red Peony. If your airbursts have a report sound and a splash of sparks, start with 1″ Ti Salute. When making your base effect, don’t use the term Airburst, just use the terms that describe the effect in the airburst. After saving your base effect, right click on it in the Effects window and select ‘Customize the effect simulation’s parameters’ (if you’re running the 2023.04.13 full release), or ‘Edit in effect editor’ (if you’re running a more recent beta release). Once you have your base VDL effect open in the effect editor, the customization options are virtually limitless. At a minimum, you’ll want to delete the launch nodes for the mortar flame and mortar sparks, change the prefire to 0s, change the launch duration to 0s and change the height to 0m. You may also want to change the break characteristics such as the break width, star count, star duration, etc.
